Abstract: | Galaxies are fascinating systems in which stars form and evolve, and which are also subject to dramatic events such as the violent expulsion of matter by supermassive black holes and collisions with other galaxies. Professor Roberto Maiolino will give an overview of our current understanding of the early phases of galaxy formation in the primeval Universe and of the processes that have transformed galaxies across the cosmic epochs, resulting in the population of galaxies and galaxy clusters observed in the local Universe.
In addition, Professor Roberto Maiolino will briefly illustrate some of the major telescopes and facilities that are being used to make progress in this field. |
